The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification is a global standard that rewards projects that reduce environmental impacts, improve energy and water efficiency, and prioritize sustainability. A building located in Adana has earned LEED BD+C: New Construction (v2009) Gold Certification with 62 points. This success story highlights the measures taken in sustainable design and construction processes.

Sustainable Site Management: Strategic Location and Smart Applications

The project achieved 17/26 points in the Sustainable Sites category. The greatest contribution came from alternative transportation options (11/11 points), which include access to public transportation, infrastructure to encourage bicycle use, and designated parking spaces for low-emission vehicles.

Innovative approaches such as heat island mitigation through roof and outdoor area designs also contributed to the project’s score. Heat island reduction helps control urban temperature increases, ultimately reducing energy consumption. Additionally, stormwater management systems controlled both the quality and quantity of water, supporting the natural water cycle.

Energy Efficiency and Water Management: Designs for the Future

In the Energy and Atmosphere category, the project successfully optimized energy performance, earning 10/19 points. The integration of renewable energy sources (2/7 points) marked another significant step in reducing energy consumption. Advanced measurement and verification systems (3/3 points) ensured continuous monitoring and optimization of energy use.

In the Water Efficiency category, the project achieved a perfect score of 10/10 points. Highlights include:

  • Water-efficient landscaping (4/4 points)
  • Innovative wastewater technologies (2/2 points).

These applications allowed for the efficient use of water resources, delivering both environmental and economic benefits.

A Model of Sustainable Design

This LEED Gold-certified project stands as an exemplary model of sustainable architecture and smart design practices. The innovative approaches showcased in energy, water, and environmental management not only address today’s needs but also set a precedent for future developments.

By integrating cutting-edge strategies, this project proves how sustainable design and construction can contribute to a greener, more efficient, and economically viable future.
