Building Area: 9,896 m²
Investor: Kar Automotive
Location: Batman, Turkey
Contributing to the rapidly developing industrial infrastructure of Batman, the Ford-Toyota Dealership and Service Center achieved LEED BD+C: New Construction v4 Gold Certification on December 19, 2024, reaching a top-tier standard in sustainable building. As ERKE Sustainability Consultancy, we proudly served as the LEED consultant for this distinguished project.
Earning a total of 63 points, the project demonstrated exemplary performance particularly in energy efficiency, water management, and renewable energy use. Achieving this level of sustainability in a region like Batman, known for its hot climate, is the result of a meticulous and integrated design-consulting process.
1. Integrative Process Management (1/1 Point): Early coordination among all design and engineering disciplines led to strategies that minimized energy and water consumption. This holistic approach centered sustainability throughout both the design and operational phases.
2. Location and Transportation (4/20 Points): The project aimed to reduce transportation-related emissions by providing dedicated parking for green vehicles and minimizing overall parking space. It was also strategically located for access to public transportation to further reduce environmental impact.
3. Sustainable Site Development (6/10 Points): The project earned full points for rainwater management, protecting local water resources. Roof and site design strategies targeting the reduction of heat island effect contributed indirectly to lowering energy consumption.
4. Water Efficiency (9/11 Points): By selecting native plants and using water-efficient irrigation systems, the project earned two points. In the interior, highly efficient plumbing fixtures achieved up to 100% water savings, earning six additional points. Whole-building water metering enabled transparent tracking of water use.
5. Energy and Atmosphere (24/33 Points): The project secured all available points in the optimized energy performance category, marking a major achievement. A rooftop renewable energy system (3/3 points) allowed the building to partially generate its own power. Green power procurement and carbon offset strategies further minimized the building’s environmental footprint.
6. Materials and Resources (6/13 Points): Sustainability in this area was supported through the use of EPD-certified materials, responsible sourcing, and a construction waste management plan that diverted over 90% of waste from landfills.
7. Indoor Environmental Quality (4/16 Points): The project prioritized occupant comfort with the use of low-VOC materials and construction-phase indoor air quality management strategies.
8. Regional Priority and Innovation Credits (9/10 Points): ERKE secured four points through innovative approaches and fulfilled all region-specific priority credits defined for the Batman region, addressing local environmental challenges.
The Batman Ford-Toyota Dealership and Service Center is not just a building that complies with technical specifications—it is a climate-conscious business model. ERKE played a central role in this vision by delivering end-to-end LEED consulting, including strategy development, technical guidance, documentation management, and process coordination.
Our LEED roadmap provided clear steps for the investor while equipping the design and construction teams with low-impact, high-efficiency solutions. Throughout the USGBC certification process, we ensured all documentation was submitted on time and in full, leading to a smooth and successful certification outcome.
This accomplishment is both a testament to Batman’s contribution to sustainable development and a standout example among LEED Gold-certified industrial facilities in Turkey.
