An Eco-Friendly Facility with ERKE’s Consultancy

The THY ULD Building, designed in line with environmental sustainability goals in Istanbul, was awarded LEED BD+C: New Construction Certified Certification in 2021. ERKE provided consultancy in energy efficiency, water management, and sustainable material use, contributing to the development of an environmentally conscious structure. With a total of 47 points, the project highlights the significance of environmental responsibility and marks a notable achievement.

 Environmental Responsibility Through Energy and Water Efficiency

In the Energy and Atmosphere category, the project earned 12/53 points, implementing innovative solutions for energy management:

  • Optimization of Energy Performance (12/18): Optimized systems were used to reduce energy consumption.
  • Regional Priority Credits: Solutions aligned with regional energy priorities further enhanced energy performance.

In the Water Efficiency category, 5/11 points were achieved, showcasing effective water management:

  • Outdoor Water Use (2/2): Innovative irrigation systems minimized water consumption.
  • Indoor Water Use (2/6): Water-efficient fixtures optimized indoor water usage.
  • Water Metering Systems (1/1): Systems were integrated to monitor and track water consumption.

Innovative Strategies in Materials and Indoor Environmental Quality

In the Materials and Resources category, the project earned 6/13 points, demonstrating success in sustainable material selection and waste management:

  • Construction Waste Management (2/2): Effective recycling and management of construction waste were achieved.
  • Environmental Product Declaration (1/2): Materials were assessed for their environmental impacts.
  • Life Cycle Impact Reduction (3/5): Solutions were applied to reduce the environmental impact of material choices.

The Indoor Environmental Quality category earned 5/16 points, prioritizing user comfort and well-being:

  • Air Quality Management (1/1): Strategies were implemented to protect air quality during construction.
  • Thermal Comfort (1/1): HVAC systems ensured a balanced and comfortable indoor environment.
  • Lighting Solutions (1/2): User-centric indoor lighting systems were designed to improve occupant comfort.
