This process involved a comprehensive approach aimed at minimizing environmental impacts. A closer look at the project’s scorecard reveals a holistic integration of sustainability principles.

Sustainable Success with LEED Gold Certification

Mall of Istanbul was awarded the LEED Core and Shell v2009 Gold Certification, achieving 60 points. The project incorporated numerous innovative applications aimed at creating sustainable spaces. The details of the scorecard highlight both the project’s strengths and areas for further development:

1. Sustainable Site Management and Accessibility

The project scored 20 out of 28 points in the Sustainable Sites category, earning full points in key areas such as Access to Public Transportation (SSc4.1), demonstrating an environmentally friendly transportation infrastructure. Additionally, points earned in criteria like Maximizing Open Spaces (SSc5.2) reflect the project's commitment to ecological sensitivity.

2. Water and Energy Efficiency

Mall of Istanbul scored 8 out of 10 points in the Water Efficiency category. Innovative wastewater technologies (WEc2) and water-saving measures (WEc3) played a significant role in conserving water resources. However, energy efficiency achieved only 12 out of 37 points. Greater focus on Optimize Energy Performance (EAc1) could lead to higher achievements in energy management in the future.

3. Materials and Indoor Environmental Quality

In the Materials and Resources (MR) category, the project earned 6 out of 13 points, reflecting progress in areas such as the use of recyclable and locally sourced materials. The Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) category emphasized occupant health, scoring points through strategies like the use of low-emission materials (EQc4.1-4.2) to enhance indoor air quality.

4. Innovation and Regional Priorities

The project earned 5 out of 6 points in the Innovation category and achieved full points in Regional Priority Credits, aligning with local sustainability goals.

A Model for an Inspiring Future

Mall of Istanbul, guided by ERKE, has taken a significant step toward a sustainable future. By successfully minimizing environmental impacts and enhancing user comfort, the project serves as a model for future developments.

The LEED Gold Certification is not just an award but a testament to our commitment to sustainability goals. At ERKE, we remain dedicated to building a greener and more sustainable world.
