Through our LEED consultancy expertise, the Mersin Center for Archaeology, Architecture, History, and Cultural Heritage successfully achieved LEED BD+C: New Construction (v2009) Gold Certification. Awarded in March 2016, this project exemplifies sustainable architecture through its environmentally friendly design approach and energy efficiency.
Scoring 63 points to achieve the Gold level, the building stands out for its high performance in the Energy & Atmosphere and Sustainable Sites categories. The sustainability strategies implemented in this project focus on reducing environmental impact while enhancing user experience.
Key Achievements in LEED Categories
1. Energy and Atmosphere
Energy efficiency was one of the project’s strongest areas. The building achieved full points in the Optimize Energy Performance category, minimizing energy consumption and utilizing renewable energy sources. Additionally, it earned full points in On-site Renewable Energy, enhancing local energy production capacity. With a total score of 29/35 points, the project demonstrated exceptional performance in energy and environmental management.
2. Sustainable Site Management
The center excelled in Alternative Transportation credits by promoting access to public transportation and low-emission transportation solutions. It also achieved full points in Development Density and Community Connectivity, leveraging the density and accessibility advantages of its location. This category scored a total of 16/26 points.
3. Materials and Resources
To reduce the environmental impact of the building, full points were earned in the Construction Waste Management and Recycled Content categories. Additionally, the use of locally sourced materials led to high performance in the Regional Materials category. The project achieved a total of 8/14 points in this category.
4. Water Efficiency
Focusing on water conservation, the project earned 2/4 points in the Water Use Reduction category. Water-saving equipment played a key role in reducing water consumption.
5. Innovation and Regional Priority
The project developed innovative designs and solutions tailored to local environmental conditions, earning a total of 6 points in the Innovation and Regional Priority categories.
