Through the LEED consultancy provided by ERKE, the Istanbul University AUZEF Building has successfully earned the LEED BD+C: New Construction (v4) Silver Certification. Awarded this certification in June 2024, the project stands out for its environmentally conscious design and sustainable practices.

Achieving 59 points to reach the Silver level, the AUZEF Building demonstrated remarkable results in areas such as energy efficiency, water management, and occupant comfort. Notably, its achievements in the Optimize Energy Performance and Indoor Water Use Reduction categories played a significant role in reducing the building's environmental impact.

Successful LEED Strategies

1. Energy and Atmosphere

The project scored 12 out of 18 points in the Optimize Energy Performance category, thanks to measures aimed at improving energy performance. Key achievements include the use of energy-efficient systems and strategies for enhanced energy management. Additionally, advanced energy monitoring and measurement systems were implemented to ensure effective energy consumption tracking.

2. Water Efficiency

The AUZEF Building successfully met its water-saving goals, scoring 5 out of 6 points in the Indoor Water Use Reduction category. The use of water-efficient fixtures significantly reduced the building's water consumption, contributing to sustainable resource management.

3. Comfort and Indoor Environmental Quality

To enhance occupant well-being, the project incorporated solutions such as low-emitting materials, advanced indoor air quality strategies, and high standards for interior lighting. Full points were achieved in both the Enhanced IAQ Strategies and Interior Lighting categories, underscoring the project's commitment to superior indoor environmental quality.

4. Regional Priority and Innovation

The project addressed Istanbul’s local needs with tailored solutions, earning 4 out of 4 points in the Regional Priority category. Additionally, innovative designs and practices garnered 4 out of 5 points in the Innovation category, showcasing alignment with both local and global sustainability objectives.
