A Pioneering Step in Sustainability for Educational Buildings
At ERKE Design, we provided consultancy services for the LEED BD+C: Schools (v2009) certification of the Mavişehir Educational Institution project. Completed at the Certified level in July 2016, this project represents a significant effort to integrate environmentally friendly design principles with the goal of contributing to education.
Achievements of the Project
Sustainable Site Utilization
The project earned 15 out of 24 points by prioritizing strategies such as alternative transportation options and access to public transit. Eco-friendly transportation choices were emphasized for students and staff.
Water Efficiency
With innovative water management systems and efficient landscaping applications, the project achieved 10 out of 11 points in the water efficiency category. These solutions helped conserve resources and reduce operational costs.
Energy Efficiency
The project scored 4 out of 33 points in the energy and atmosphere category through optimized energy performance and energy monitoring systems. These efforts aimed to reduce the school’s carbon footprint.
Materials and Resource Management
The project earned 6 out of 13 points by effectively managing construction waste and using recycled content materials. This recovery-focused approach made the project more environmentally friendly.
Indoor Environmental Quality
By choosing low-emission materials and maintaining indoor air quality during construction, the project earned 2 points in this category.
The Intersection of Education and Sustainability
Mavişehir Educational Institution reflects sustainability principles in its architectural design to instill environmental awareness in students. While ensuring efficient use of resources, the project also prioritized the health and comfort of students and staff.
